5 FACTS ARE:
1. GM crops have been grown commercially since 1996. Since then the GM market has grown 74-fold and spread to 25 countries. The global value of the GM crop market was 7.5 billion dollars in 2008

2.The top three GM crops in 2008 were soybeans (53 percent of total GM area), maize (30 percent), and cotton (15 percent). Others include rapeseed (canola), alfalfa, and papaya.

3.Ninety percent of GM crops, and almost all GM food crops, are grown in four countries—the United States, Argentina, Brazil, and Canada. The U.S. produces almost half of all GM crops.

4.Future GM crops likely to be commercialized by 2015 include rice, eggplant, potatoes, and wheat. Drought resistant and nutritionally enhanced crops are also expected in the near future.

5.There are 13.3 million farmers cultivating GM crops. The vast majority are smallholders in China (7.1 million) and India (5 million) who are growing GM cotton.

GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOODS

a) What is the science behind genetically modified foods?
Genetically modified foods (GM foods, or biotech foods) are foods derived from genetically modified organisms (GMOs), such as genetically modified foods or genetically modified fish. GMOs have had specific changes introduced into their DNA by genetic engineering techniques.
b) What foods are affected by this technology?
Fruits and vegetables (papayas,potatoes,zucchini),Cooking oil, margarine, shortening and Sugar are affected with this technology but when received then put some things in the food and make it prevent any hazards when a person eats it.  
c) What are the problems with this technology?
the problems is that it can cause diseases and deadly viruses that are very bad for us but luckily we have men on the job.there are over 500 viruses and can cause diseases like cancer and other diseases like as bad as cancer.
d) What action has been taken to try and prevent the technology developing?
the people would engineer the food to resist the virus and in the markets when they get the item they always test the food to check if it is fine also when received they put something to not be deadly or poisonous.
